This is the retractable pencil I got out of my stationery kit cheaply from the corner shop three doors down from me by the W7 bus stop. It is a papermate pencil, the kind with a black plastic conical nib you twist to get more lead out. I cannot tell how much lead there is left. The rubber at the end is the same colour as the nib and nearly worn down by my use. The clip has been broken off for long enough that the edges of its leftover shoulder are no longer sharp but smooth through use. Although my use of the pencil does not involve holding this shoulder of its clip or really touching it at all, it will probably have been smoothed by being kept in the middle pocket of my shoulder bag where I keep biros and sometimes this pencil etc etc.
